The Golden Eaglets on Saturday beat Cross River State’s Under-18 in a friendly game played at the practice pitch of the U.J Esuene Sports Stadium in Calabar on Saturday.
The team is camping in Calabar ahead of the FIFA U-17 World Cup billed for the United Arab Emirates.
Last month, their new recruits held Taraba State’s Academy to a 1-1 draw during the screening
exercise at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project Centre in Abuja.
Coach Manu Garba, had this to say about the preparation so far, “Although it is early days, there are many positives from this match,”
“Our team is not on the same level with the opposition but you can see that there is a synergy between the old players and the new ones recently picked from the screening exercise.
“We would continue to work on the team and by the grace of God, we shall have a solid team for the World Cup,” he maintained. Incidentally,
The Cross Rivers U-18 Coach Paul Undeliku, whose team was defeated also said, “I’m highly impressed with the performance of the Golden Eaglets and it was apparent that they were the better side today.
“I think they even played better than the team we saw in Morocco but by and large, we would
definitely give a better account if we have the opportunity for a rematch because I put together this team at a very short notice.”
