Former Super Eagles Captain, Sunday Oliseh has blamed Nigeria’s poor outing at the ongoing FIFA Confederation Cup in Brazil on the inexperienced local players featured by Coach Stephen Keshi.
While commenting on the performance of the Super Eagles who were defeated 3-0 by Spain on Sunday, Oliseh contended that the league players are not matured enough for such a big tournament.
He spoke on the Super Sports programme, saying “the home based players need fine-tuning with many matches to be able to compete favourably with the oversees based ones despite having the potentials to be great players.
“During our time in Nigerian elite league we attracted large turnout of fans into Nigerian stadia who trooped out on weekends to watch us play.
“But now it is no longer so. Fans prefer to watch English Premier League matches involving Manchester United, Chelsea and the rest.
“If you ask these Nigerian fans to mention some Nigerian local league player they won’t be able to do so unlike EPL clubs.
He therefore, canvassed for urgent improvement in the quality of the local league so that leagues matches can once again; attract spectators to the stadia as it used to be during his days.
