The Kano State Police Command has arrested two 19-year-old men over alleged illegal possession of a firearm and recovered a locally made revolver pistol and two rounds of live ammunition.
The suspects, identified as Rufai Ahmed of Hotoro Quarters and Aliyu Ibrahim of Kawo Quarters, were arrested following a police investigation into the discovery of the weapon.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, Ahmed was arrested at about 10.30pm on October 11, 2026, after officers intercepted a tricycle along Sokoto Road over suspected criminal activity.
Kiyawa said officers attached to the Farm Centre Police Division searched the tricycle and discovered a bag containing the pistol and ammunition, leading to Ahmed’s arrest.
He added that further investigations, ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, resulted in the arrest of Ibrahim in connection with the case.
The police spokesman said the operation was in line with directives by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on intelligence-led policing, the recovery of illegal firearms and efforts to curb criminal activities.
The commissioner, according to the statement, directed investigators to intensify their inquiries before charging the suspects to court.
Bakori commended the officers involved for their vigilance and professionalism, reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling illegal possession of firearms and other crimes across the state.
