No fewer than 300 Amateur golfers have registered to snatch the Captain’s Cup trophy won by Eighteen-handicap player, Martin Stephen Kolo last year as the 2005 organising committee unveiled this year’s programmes of event at a press briefing at the club house of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
Among dignitaries expected at the closing day of the event include the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede as well as other invited guests.
Speaking to journalists, Chairman, organising committee of the week-long golfing activities which is tagged “Tiger Bows Out,” Ben Okoyen said all arrangements have been concluded to have free, uninterrupted memorable games.
“As you may aware, IBB Golf Club has been sponsoring sports competitions and promoting sports development in Nigeria. We are very happy with what the club has been doing particularly the current Captain and his team.
With what they have done so far, uniting golfers all over the country and making Golf an enviable activities for everyone.
We are happy to announce to you that we are very prepared for this tournament,” he stated.
While highlighting the programmes of the event for the Six days, Competition Secretary, Ashir Tarfa said the first day which is Monday will be for Caddies and Staffs competition, to be followed by course maintenance on the second day.
Men handicap 29 and above and Female handicap 36 and above in Division three will compete on the third day while Male and Female Super Veterans and Veterans as well as Pros will battle for honours on the fourth day.
Friday will be the turn of the Division two Men in handicap Eleven to twenty-eight and Female in Handicap Sixteen to Thirty Five.
The event will be climax with Division one
Men handicap zero to ten, Female handicap Zero to Fifteen, executive members, members of the Board of Trustees,Sponsors and Special Guests while presentation of prizes and dinner will take place in the night.
The club Captain, Ibrahim Babayo while commending the members of the Organising Committee, assured the participants that the club environment is now conducive in spite of recent development.
” In any gathering or any club, you might have hitches here and there, we are all matured, respected and all what happened in recent past was in the interest of the club”. He said.
On how he wants to be remembered after leaving the office this month, Babayo said
” I want to be remembered as a leader that came, saw the challenges, was not scared to take hard decisions, took the decisions which was for the benefit of the club, left the place much better that how I met it,” he concluded.
