Sequel to the directive by the World Soccer governing Body, Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) to all its affiliates and league bodies to comply with the established standard club licensing provisions, the Association of Nigeria Premier League club chairmen and Managers ( Club Owners) have summoned an emergency meeting in Abuja.
The meeting will discuss the issue of club licensing as it affects the readiness of the clubs ahead of the commencement of the 2013/2014 Glo premier League season.
According to a statement by the Acting Secretary of the Club Owners Association Alloy Chukwuemeka, “the meeting is expected to discuss the issue of club licensing guidelines as well as how best to fine tune it in order to ensure its domestication to conform with our local system, and consideration of our peculiarities as well as understanding our environmental factors”.
He added that the meeting which is scheduled to hold on Wednesday 8th January 2014 at Prix Air hotel Zone 6 Wuse Abuja by 10pm will afford the clubs an opportunity to develop an internal machinery to educate and enlighten its body on the advantages derivable from complying with the club licensing provisions as well as its multiplier effects on the League.
On the proposed kick off date for the new season, he said no official meeting has been held between the LMC and the clubs since the granting of the one season extension to the LMC but “As the owners of the league we cannot allow our property to suffer in the hands of a temporary caretaker, so we decided to meet in order to discuss the future of the league amongst other pressing issues” .
It would be recalled that since the conclusion of the 2012/2013 premier league and the granting of a one season extension of tenure to the LMC by the NFF no official meeting has been held between the clubs and the league organizers which had affected all the pre-season preparation and no official kick off date
