Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah has expressed surprise with his side’s big win over Nigeria, Prompt News reports.
The Falcons stunned Eric Chelle‘s side 4-0 in their Group D encounter at the Amman Stadium, Zanzibar on Tuesday night.
Abdel RaouYagoub’s shot was deflected into the net by Leonard Ngenege for Sudan’s opening goal in the 25th minute.
Walieldin Khdir converted from the spot to double Sudan’s advantage one minute before the break.
Yagoub then netted twice in the second half to complete the rout.
“I was surprised with the performance of some of my players. If you noticed, my changes came deep into the second half because everyone was playing really well,” Appiah was quoted by CAFonline.
“We knew it was going to be tough, especially the first 20 minutes. Our tactical play was to absorb pressure and hit them on the counter.
“I wasn’t expecting the scoreline, but I knew if we play our best, we could defeat Nigeria.”
