The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the Best XI for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, with the Super Falcons conspicuously absent from the team, Prompt News Online reports.
Nigeria had a tournament to forget in Morocco, with their campaign ending in the quarter-finals after a 1-0 defeat to eventual winners Cameroon.
The early exit was a historic low for the 10-time champions, marking the first time they failed to progress to the semi-finals of the competition.
Unsurprisingly, champions Cameroon had the highest number of representatives in the Best XI, with four players making the cut.
Goalkeeper Michaely Bihina was selected alongside Myrian Myadjou, Monique Ngock and Marie Ngah following their impressive contributions to Cameroon’s title-winning campaign.
Malawi, who finished as runners-up, had two players in the line-up, with sisters Tabitha Chawinga and Temwa Chawinga both earning recognition for their performances.
Hosts Morocco were represented by Mohaila Benzina and Hanane Ait El Haj, while Algeria duo Ines Belloumou and Marine Dafeur were also included.
Zambia forward Barbara Banda secured the final spot in the star-studded selection.
The failure of any Nigerian player to make the Best XI summed up a disappointing tournament for the Super Falcons, who were unable to live up to expectations in Morocco.
