Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has raised concerns about what she described as a decline in discipline and commitment among some actors in the Nigerian film industry.
Wright made the remarks during an interview with Jay On Air TV, where she compared the work culture she experienced when she began acting with what she now sees on some movie sets.
The 59-year-old actress expressed disappointment over the lateness of some actors, noting that performers who are expected to arrive early sometimes show up several hours later.
“Sometimes I will go to locations. These days, I will see a lot of actors that are meant to be on set by 9am just strolling in by 2 or 3pm,” she said.
Reflecting on the early days of Nollywood, Wright said the industry was characterised by committed actors who took their responsibilities seriously.
“The old Nollywood, I’ll tell you, had the spice. They were wonderful actors and people were really dedicated to their jobs. Back then, we had a lot of discipline,” she said.
The actress also recalled entering an industry that was largely dominated by men but said she was determined to establish herself despite the challenges.
“I remember when I came in because it was mainly a men-dominated industry, but I was like, no, I’m going to do it. And I did it,” she added.

Wright, who took a lengthy break from Nollywood before returning to the industry, has continued to appear in film and television productions.
She recently produced The Return of Omotola Johnson, further demonstrating her continued involvement in filmmaking.
In May, the actress also revealed that fame was not the reason she initially pursued acting. According to Wright, she entered the industry partly so her children would have a way of finding her when they grew older.
