The leadership of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has agreed on Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election, signalling an early effort to foster cohesion within its ranks.
The resolution was reached at a strategic meeting of party stakeholders held in the Samonda area of Ibadan, where discussions centred on the party’s preparedness and plans for future elections.
Addressing attendees, a party stalwart, Hamzat Ayo Adeseun, explained that the choice of Alli emerged after broad consultations among party leaders and was influenced by the position of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He emphasised that the President’s role as the party’s national leader was pivotal in guiding the decision to rally behind Alli.
Adeseun said, “The President remains the rallying point of our party, and his views were carefully taken into account in arriving at this position.”
Similarly, the Director of the South West Development Commission, Fatai Ibikunle, revealed that he had also interacted with Tinubu, noting that the President indicated support for Alli as the party’s candidate.
Ibikunle called on other aspirants to respect the collective decision, stressing that unity within the party would be key to winning the governorship election.

In his acceptance remarks, Alli expressed appreciation to the party leadership for the endorsement and assured members of his commitment to inclusive leadership if given the mandate.
