Residents of the Idimu area in Lagos State were gripped by fear on Sunday following the discovery of two male corpses, one of which was found decapitated.
The grim discovery was made early Sunday morning along Oladun Road, though it is believed the killings occurred late Saturday night.
Eyewitnesses told PUNCH Metro that the bodies were lying several meters apart, drawing a crowd of shocked residents and passersby.
One of the deceased was identified as a well-known local figure, popularly called Baba Oja.
According to Lanre Ajao, a resident, “We saw their bodies early this morning.
While we couldn’t identify the beheaded man, the other is Baba Oja.
He was a familiar face in the community, often seen interacting with boys who chase flashy cars to collect money at the Council bus stop.”
Another resident, Jamiu Raji, suggested the killings may be connected to cult activity.
“The manner in which they were murdered indicates it was more than just a street fight.
It seems to be cult-related.
We rarely witness incidents like this here, which is why many residents are in shock,” he said.
Witnesses also reported that the bodies remained at the scene for nearly 10 hours before police officers arrived.
The second victim was later identified as another resident, although his name was not confirmed as of the time of reporting.
A local source, who requested anonymity for safety reasons, alleged that families of the victims were required to pay money before being allowed to retrieve the corpses.
Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful as calls and messages went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
This incident follows a series of cult-related clashes in February, where at least three individuals were killed in separate incidents in the Mushin area of Lagos and Lantoro, Abeokuta.
Those clashes were reportedly linked to renewed rivalries between the Aiye and Eiye confraternities.
