Nigerian music star Ayra Starr has stirred conversation after sharing her personal list of the greatest Afrobeats artistes of all time.
During a recent appearance on Hot 97, the singer named Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Rema as the artistes she considers the “Afrobeats Big 3.”
Her selection stands in contrast to the widely referenced trio in the genre, which usually includes Davido and Burna Boy alongside Wizkid.
Explaining her pick during the interview, Starr said, “My Afrobeats Big 3 would be Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Rema. My solid Big 3.”
The “Rush” hitmaker also spoke about her decision to move from Nigeria to New York City, revealing that her experiences in the city and the presence of friends played a major role.
According to her, she had spent the past two summers in New York and even stayed in Hell’s Kitchen for several months.
“I spent the last two summers in New York and last summer I lived in Hell’s Kitchen for about three months with my friends. We were watching American shows and movies. It was fun,” she said.

Prompt News reports she added that living in the United States had always been something she looked forward to while growing up, but she deliberately chose New York because of its proximity to Nigeria compared to Los Angeles.
“Also, growing up, I had always wanted to come to America. So which city would I want to go? LA is too far, the time difference with Nigeria is nine hours. So, I chose New York,” she said during the conversation with media personality Angela Yee.
