A 47-year-old teacher accused of flogging a 12-year-old student to death at a school in Adazi Ani, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, has surrendered to the police.
The suspect, identified as Mrs Dim Ebere, voluntarily reported at the Neni Police Station after days of intensive search by security operatives, the Anambra State Police Command said on Saturday.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect’s surrender followed sustained efforts by the Command’s Safe School Protection Squad, working alongside officers of the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters, as well as consultations with community leaders and other stakeholders in Adazi Ani.
He disclosed that the suspect is currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for the conclusion of investigations into the incident.
Ikenga commended members of the Adazi Ani community, the traditional institution and other stakeholders for their cooperation, noting that their support contributed significantly to the suspect’s decision to surrender.
He assured the bereaved family and the public that the command remains committed to conducting a thorough investigation and ensuring that justice is served.
The police spokesperson also urged residents to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands and continue to provide useful information that could assist investigators and support ongoing policing efforts across the state.

The command had on Friday launched a manhunt for the teacher after she was declared wanted in connection with the student’s death and appealed to members of the public to assist with information that could lead to her arrest.
