The Chinese Consul General in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing has said that China will sustain its economic ties with Nigeria through interventions in some key areas of the economy.
Yuqing stated that Chinese business men have been operating in key sectors of the economy in Nigeria and this will be sustained.
She promised to further the advancement of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and China.
Yuqing asserted that China as the second largest economy in the world has a strong focus in the technical development of Africa through agricultural modernization and other industrial initiatives.
She stated this during a visit to Grace Schools in Lagos and commended the school for promoting Chinese language and culture.
Yuqing lauded the school for strengthening the bond between China and Nigerian through its inclusion of Chinese language into its curriculum.
According to her, the Chinese consulate will engage in more cultural programs with Grace schools in view of its avowed commitment to promotion of Chinese language , arts and culture.
Yuqing who stated ” I feel excited as if I am in a Chinese School”says she falls in love with Nigeria during her first time in the country. She asserted that Grace schools deserve kudos for proper usage and teaching of the Chinese language.
In her address, Mrs Olatokunbo Edun, the Chief Executive Officer of Grace schools expressed her delight for the visit of the Consul General. Edun says the visit is a pointer to the fact that she believes in sustainability of relationships .
Edun who stated that the visit was the second by a Chinese Consul General to the school exemplifies the unique the school undertakes in the promotion of Chinese language.
She said the school has made huge investment in the promotion of Chinese language through its solid partnership with the Confucius Institute at the University of Lagos. According to her several of the teachers have been trained in the usage and teaching of the Chinese language.
Edun asserted further that the vision of the school is to provide qualitative learning for students. In her words, we are producing globally acclaimed scholars to occupy their own space.
There were several presentations on Chinese language, Chinese learning documentary, Chinese sing performance and Chinese traditional demonstration.
A major highlight of the visit was the cultural performance by the Badagry Sato drum performance.
The Consul General also visited the pioneer and first Chinese classroom in Lagos in the school.
