A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday granted Nollywood actress Angela Okorie bail in the sum of N5 million over allegations of cyberbullying fellow actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie.
Delivering his ruling on the bail application filed by Okorie’s counsel, Earnest Nwoye, Justice Emeka Nwite said although the prosecution opposed the request, there was no sufficient material before the court to suggest that the defendant would abscond if released.
“Therefore, I am minded to grant the bail in the interest of justice,” the judge said, stressing that the grant of bail remains at the discretion of the court and must be exercised “judicially and judiciously.”
Justice Nwite ordered that Okorie be released on a N5 million bond with one surety in like sum. The surety, the court ruled, must be a level 13 civil servant who is required to depose to an affidavit of means.

The judge further directed that the surety must present an appointment letter and evidence of their most recent promotion in service. He also ordered that both Okorie and her surety submit two passport photographs each to the court registrar, adding that the surety’s residential address must be verified by the registrar.
Prompt News reports the case was adjourned until March 23 for the commencement of trial. Pending the fulfillment of her bail conditions, Justice Nwite ordered that the actress be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre.
