The contagious nature of success made every Nigerian to associate with Nigerian athlete, Tobi Amusan, after her record breaking performance at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States of America.
Amusan won the 100m hurdles becoming the first Nigerian to win gold at the world championships.
She as well broke a six-year record following a 12.12s in the semi finals race.
As congratulatory messages were pouring in for the athlete who made Nigeria proud, Nigerian singer, Temitope Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, kicked off the weekly trend after featuring on the soundtrack for Black Panther 2 trailer.
Tems’ manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi, who shared the news on his Twitter page wrote; “Grateful to the amazing people at @MarvelStudios. BIG LOVE to the legend Ryan Coogler.
“It’s @temsbaby on the official Black Panther 2 trailer. My father in heaven. Thank you once again. Rest in peace @chadwickboseman.”
Black Panther’s trailer which was released on Sunday, July 24, was soundtracked by Tems’ cover of Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry” and Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright”.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tems recently became the first female Nigerian singer to bag the BET International Act award.
Tems has also earned an MTV VMAs nomination for Best Hip Hop Video for her contributions to Future’s “Wait For U” while her song “Vibe Out” also made it to Barack Obama’s 2022 summer playlist.
Nigeria’s most talked about reality TV show, Big Brother Naija also topped the trends on Monday when Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, made a comment about one of the housemates.
DJ Cuppy on her Twitter page shared a picture of Groovy, a housemate, suggesting that she and the housemate might be twins.
In the picture captioned, “Pretty sure Groovy and I are twins #BBNaija”, Groovy shared some similarities with Cuppy especially the pink hair.
The housemate, Groovy, and BBN immediately started trending as viewers continued to insinuate that DJ Cuppy now has a favorite housemate.
On Tuesday, allegations of a blogger accusing some Nollywood actress of sleeping with a popular pastor took another turn as some of the actresses mentioned began to react.
One of the actresses was Queen Nwokoye, whom had quickly debunked the rumours, adding that the popular pastor is a good man and great man of God.
In an Instagram post, the actress wrote; “It is a Nigerian thing to always assume that once you know someone, you are sleeping with the person but that one concern una.
“I have met a lot of people, I will still meet more and I do not owe anyone any apologies for people I have met and associated with.
“Pastor Suleman is a good man. Nothing will make me deny knowing him. You choose the kind of relationship you want to have with someone and all friendships mustn’t end in bed.
“So if you have a problem with him, settle it with him. Don’t recruit innocent people into your mess. I will never allow myself to be used to make Pastor Suleman look bad Perioddddd.”
It was actress Toyin Abraham’s turn on Wednesday to be attacked by toxic social media users after she announced the launch of her YouTube channel for children.
Abraham shared an animated picture titled “Toyin Abraham Kiddies” on her Instagram page and wrote, “Hello fam, I am delighted to present to you my new YouTube CHANNEL created for our beautiful children to learn while having fun.
“It is called “TOYIN ABRAHAM Kiddies” where you will find all contents for your kids. Please subscribe and spread the word because on Monday we go LIVE!!!
“Please subscribe to Toyin Abraham Kiddies in YouTube and join me on this ride. I love you all.”
While fans were congratulating the actress for the feat, one of her followers in the comment section accused her of doing the same thing that had been done by another actress.
Other fans subsequently pounced on the “toxic social media user” while singing praises of Toyin Abraham, who was referred to as “World Best.”
NAN recalls that actress Iyabo Ojo had in 2021 accused Funke Akindele of paying a popular movie critic to run down Toyin Abraham’s movie.
Nigerian Flutist, Tee Mac Omatshola Iseli, started trending in the early hours of Thursday, after he made a comment on the fitness of a presidential candidate to rule the country.
TeeMac, as he is popularly called, however reacted to the report, saying that he was misconstrued by a social media user who he described as ardent supporter of the said presidential candidate.
“Sycophants twisting my comments about Bola Tinubu. His competence not in doubt. I have high regards for him.
“His transformational leadership in Lagos will be replicated if given opportunity to be president of Nigeria,” Tee Mac said in a statement.
On Friday, the News of the kidnap of Nollywood actors, Clemson Cornel and Cynthia Okereke further heightened Nigerian’s call for a more secured country.
Monalisa Chinda, Director of Communication, Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), had revealed in a statement that the actors were reported missing after their family members confirmed they did not come back from a film location at Ozalla Town, Enugu State.
The Police Command in Enugu State had immediately commenced investigation and a vehicle belonging to Okereke was recovered at Four-Corners on Enugu-Port-Harcourt Expressway, where it was abandoned.
Emeka Rollas, President of AGN, also said the abductors of the Nollywood actors have made a demand of 100,000 dollars to set them free.
Rollas also implored actors to avoid filming in outskirts of cities without security.
As at 9.00pm on Saturday, the kidnap of the Nollywood actors remained the most searched topic by Nigerians with over 10,000 searches after foreign sports. (NAN)
