Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso admitted Victor Boniface’s fast start to life in the Bundesliga is a big surprise to him.
Boniface moved to the BayArena in a deal worth €20m this summer.
The 22-year-old is so far one of the revelations in the German top-flight this season.
The Nigeria international has scored 14 goals and registered seven assists in 21 appearances across all competitions for Die Werkself this season.
Alonso eulogised Boniface for his impressive start at the club.
“We could not be certain that the players would perform so well straightaway,” Alonso told a press conference.

“But obviously, we are also very pleased that he has made such a good impact as well.”
