Governor Ademola Adeleke’s spokesperson, Mr. Olawale Rasheed, has clarified that the recent visit by the Adeleke family to President Bola Tinubu was not related to any plans to defect from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The visit, which included Governor Adeleke, his elder brother Dr. Deji Adeleke, and nephew David Adeleke (known as Davido), took place on Tuesday in Lagos and sparked widespread speculation that the governor might be considering joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, in a statement released on Wednesday, Rasheed dismissed such claims as media speculation, emphasizing that the visit was purely a courtesy call.
“The media speculation about an imminent defection is fake news. Governor Adeleke remains a committed member and leader of the PDP in Osun State.
The visit by the Adeleke family to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was a routine courtesy call. Any interpretation suggesting defection is false,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the APC in Osun State, through former House of Assembly Speaker Timothy Owoeye, rejected any notion that the party’s 2026 gubernatorial ticket is available for purchase, stressing that Adeleke is not a member of the APC.
Owoeye stated, “I want to categorically say that the APC ticket is not for sale. As of today, Adeleke is not a member of the APC. The APC in Osun remains the party to beat.
If it were not for the fear and uncertainty troubling the Adeleke family and the PDP, they would not be hinting at a move to the APC.”
He added, “The Adeleke family knows their tenure ends on August 8, 2026.
We are committed to driving the PDP out of the Osun government. We urge our people to remain calm. There is no place for the PDP or Adeleke in the APC.”
