The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to explain his whereabouts during the five-day period following the conclusion of the 2025 BRICS Summit in Brazil.
President Tinubu, who returned to Abuja in the early hours of Sunday, had been absent from public view since the summit ended on Monday, July 7.
The ADC noted that while other world leaders promptly returned home to resume national duties, Nigeria’s president remained out of sight without any official communication or briefing to the nation.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party criticized the President’s delayed return, stating that five days is a significant time in the life of a country facing serious economic and security challenges.
“This is not a private vacation; the President was on official duty. Nigerians deserve to know why he stayed away for five extra days with no official update,” the ADC said.
The party further expressed concern over what it described as a growing pattern of unaccounted international trips and unexplained absences by the President.
It recalled similar instances in January, April, and August 2024, when President Tinubu reportedly vanished from public engagement after official trips abroad, leaving citizens in the dark.
“The repeated instances of unexplained absences create uncertainty, fuel speculation, and harm the country’s image on the global stage,” the statement added.

The party urged Nigerians to take note of what it described as “serial disappearances,” arguing that a leader who vanishes without explanation cannot be trusted to address the pressing challenges facing the country.
“A President that disappears without accountability lacks the moral standing to ask citizens for sacrifice. And a ruling party that defends such conduct clearly has little regard for the people,” the ADC concluded.
