Nollywood actress Regina Chukwu has opened up about the painful loss of her husband, who passed away three years into their marriage after battling a serious illness.
In a recent interview on a YouTube podcast hosted by fellow actress Biola Adebayo, Regina revealed that their youngest child was just four months old when her husband died.
She spoke about the significant expenses they incurred while seeking medical treatment and how she took him to his hometown in Enugu State for better care.
Regina described her husband’s severe suffering, recalling how he once asked for a lethal injection to end his pain.
Due to his worsening condition, some people even called him a “living corpse.”
“My last child was only four months old when their father passed away.
Every time I try to talk about it, I break down in tears,” Regina said.
She shared memories of their struggles, saying, “On the night of our traditional wedding, he told me that all the money he had, both at home and abroad, was just eleven thousand naira.
That night, I cried, wondering how we would survive because the illness had drained his resources.”
Regina added, “Life became very hard. I couldn’t even register for antenatal care, and after 41 days of welcoming my child, I had to return to work because my husband was bedridden and using a potty at home.
He couldn’t eat without immediately having diarrhea. People who saw him said he looked like a living corpse.

I was running around with a baby on my back. He even asked me to beg his mother for mercy death.”
She also recalled the moment her father-in-law declared her husband dead while struggling to support him physically.
Regina fainted and later woke up to find out her husband had already been buried.
After the burial, his sister suggested that Regina stay in Enugu, where they would help her find an apartment or start a business.
