The Managing Director of Abuja Centenary City Project, Dr. Ike Odenigwe has said that the primary infrastructure works of the new city within the centre of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja has been progressing rapidly with Julius Berger and the community support.
An elated Odenigwe stated this at the official commissioning of the ancillary road infrastructure constructed by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, linking Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway and Kuje road intersection on Tuesday, April 21, 2016 under the watchful eyes of the Emirs of Jiwa and Kershi, Abuja.
Speaking at the event that attracted district heads, community leaders, and youths from the area, Dr. Odenigwe said that the corporation between the Abuja Centenary City Project, Julius Berger, Emirs and their subjects have sped up the primary infrastructure works of the new city, including the ancillary road infrastructure being commissioned today.
Said he: “So, today’s program is to showcase the dramatic progress in this long-awaited amazing project with the first road project and the support we are receiving from the communities who have supported us all these years.
“We also want Nigerians to see this project through the eyes of the people bringing it to life.
“As you all know, Centenary City is conceptualized as the foremost Abuja Urban Renewable Project. Centenary City is not just a futuristic, sustainability-focused, and pedestrian-centric master planned City— it is the work of thousands of Nigerians building a new economic future. Every road we pave, every foundation we set, and every job we create is a step toward a livable, safe, modern community for families, professionals, and businesses”.
Speaking further, Dr. Odenigwe stressed that the Centenary City presents a great opportunity to create value and raise Abuja’s profile-to encourage international investment in Abuja.
According to him: “The project is designed to work in harmony with nature. The city is conceptualized as a truly multifunctional development that offers a complete cosmopolitan lifestyle to its residents, as well as
serves as a tourism hub for the wider community”.
Said he: “We are delighted to acknowledge the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Barr. Nyesom Wike, the Hon. Minister of FC, who in his wisdom has encouraged masterly and sustainable development in FCT.
“We also acknowledge the support o the Toge communit under the guidance of the revered Emir of Jiwa, HRM Dr. Idris Musa, MFR, on whose original land the project
is taking off”.
Recall that in a landmark move for Abuja’s rising profile, on August 15, 2025, Centenary City management officially engaged Messers Julius Berger Nigeria Plc (Julius Berger) for the provision of primary infrastructure to the Centenary City (Lot 1, which is the Plot Access Road of 4.3 km) and Messers Dar Al-Handasah Consultants (DAR) to execute the detailed engineering design of the entire project.
Meanwhile, the Emir of Jiwa (Dr. Musa) on whose original land the project is sitting stated that his community is happy with the project developers but urged the management of the facility not to forget to extend to his people what is due to them.
“Our land has been taken over before, and we didn’t get our dues, but we are happy now with what is happening now with Centenary City management. I therefore, call on our people to be calm and wait for what belongs to us”.
In his remarks, the Project Consultant, Professor Okey Ikechukwu, Mni, commended Abuja Centenary City Project developers for its commitment to deliver a world class city for Nigerians and non Nigerians alike.
Representative of Julius Berger Johny Kouchan said his company is committed to providing quality primary infrastructure works and by the speed they are going, they will meet the target set for them.
