ILORIN – Two parallel congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) took place in Kwara during the Local Government Congress of the party on Saturday.
The faction led by the state APC Chairman, Mr Olayemi Olabanji, held their own congress aside from the main APC congress.
A statement by the Publicity Secretary of the legacy group faction of the party, Mr Kayode Oyin-Zubair, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of their congress.
“Reports reaching the situation room as it concerns the ongoing local government congress in the 16 local government areas of the state has been very satisfactory,” he said.
According to Oyin-Zubair, the reports trickling from the local government areas indicated that the exercise will record an unprecedented success.
“We are getting reports from our monitors at the local government areas and we are really satisfied that at the end of the day it will throw up credible personalities across the state.
“It is a clear departure from what was experienced last weekend when we had the ward congress. The ward congress was rather unfortunate when party constitution and congress was flagrantly trampled.
“We are on top of the situation and urge our members to remain steadfast and calm even in the face of any provocation.
“What we are doing is the sacrifice necessary for democracy to grow and we are equally committed to deepen internal democracy within our party,” he said.
In Omu Aran, all the 27 candidates in Irepodun local government were returned unopposed.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the candidates were returned elected having the desired 205 votes unopposed in the congress election held at the council secretariat in Omu-Aran.
The congress was witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state and personnel of some security agencies including the police.
Also present at the congress were members of the APC Congress Committee for the council headed by Mr Niyi Oba.
Oba, in a remark, expressed satisfaction with the “smooth, orderly and transparent’’ manner the congress was conducted.
He promised to make detailed report of the congress proceeding to the appropriate quarter.
Mr Audu Armak, INEC Electoral Officer for the congress, described the congress as peaceful and rancour free.
Mr Bisi Owolabi, the elected APC Chairman, promised to run an all-inclusive administration as a way of ensuring the party’s victory in the coming elections.
He called for the support of other stakeholders to succeed in his assignment.
Mr Muyiwa Oladipo, the Council Chairman, commended the candidates for their maturity and understanding.
He promised to work with the newly elected APC executive in moving the party forward.
Other elected members were Mr Tunde Oyeyipo as Vice Chairman; Olatunji Oladipo, Secretary; Joseph Ajiboye, Legal Adviser; and Olumide Ibitoye, Treasurer.
Similarly, Demola Afolayan was elected as the state Financial Secretary; Oladele Ojeniyi, Publicity Secretary; Rachael Adebayo, Woman Leader, and Samsudeen Bada, Youth Leader.
In Ilorin West, all the 21elective posts of the party were settled by consensus arrangement.
NAN also reports that the congress, which was attended by some chieftains of the party, was conducted under a peaceful atmosphere.
The consensus arrangement was conducted under the supervision of some security agents.
A former Secretary to the Kwara Government, Alhaji Saka lsau, said the consensus arrangement was a demonstration of unity and peace existing among members of the party in the state.
He said the party would continue to ensure unity among members for more development to be attained in the state.
UMUAHIA –  The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia held a peaceful local government congress across the 17 council areas of the state on Saturday.

The NAN correspondents, who monitored the exercise in different parts of the state, reports that the process was orderly, peaceful and transparent.

Meanwhile, a faction of the party loyal to Chief Ikechi Emenike also held a parallel congress at Umuawa Alaocha Primary School in Umuahia North LGA.

The congress, which also adopted Option A4, elected Chief Nelson Udenze (Chairman), Onyebuchi Igodo (Treasurer), Chigozie Oriaku (Secretary) and Mercy Uchechukwu (Women Leader).

At Obingwa, the congress elected Chinedu Ihesiulo (Chairman), Mr Solomon Okezie (Secretary), Lovina Okpara (Woman Leader),

NAN reports that the losers congratulated the winners and embraced them in a rare show of the spirit of sportsmanship.

DELTA –  The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oshimili South Local Government, Asaba, Delta, has produced parallel executives at its Congress held on Saturday, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

While the congress at Oshimili South party Secretariat, Asaba re-elected the former Chairman, Chief Ben Onwuka, Mr Chuka Nwabugwu was elected at the one that took place at the Ogwa-Uku in Umuaji, Asaba.

In an interview with newsmen, Onwuka, who identified himself as the re-elected APC Chairman in Oshimili South LGA described the exercise as peaceful and transparent.

According to Onwuka, the internal democracy of the APC was clear and practical during the elections.

“There is no victor, no vanquish, it was an internal democracy in the APC as all positions were dully contested and candidates elected.

“There is no gain saying that there are no prodigal sons in the party but we are expecting them to back because we are one family, our common enemy is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“We must work together in the state to fight and take over power from PDP in Delta in 2019,” he said.

On the congress that produce Mr Nwabugwu as Chairman, Mr Festus Oyibo, Chairman, Congress Committee, Oshimili South LGA, also said that the congress was peaceful and transparent.

LOKOJA – The APC in Kogi on Saturday again held parallel congress during the local government congress in Lokoja Local Government.

NAN reports that on May 6, the ward congress by the APC was plunged into confusion, as both Audu/Faleke and Gov. Yahaya Bello factions held separate exercise.

A Correspondent of the New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who monitored the exercise in Lokoja Local Government reports that the development led to emergence of two parallel executives of the party in the local government.

In Lokoja Local Government , the parallel congresses were held at the St Luke Primary School, Adankolo and Lokoja Local Government hall.

While the faction led by the state Chairman of the party, Alhaji Haddy Ametuo held its congress at St Luke Primary School, the Alhaji Ibrahim Ahovi led faction held its own inside the hall.

Mr Usman Mamanlafia emerged Chairman at the Congress that took place at St LukePry School while Mr Maikudi Bature, was elected the new Chairman at the Congress which held at the local government hall.

The elections went peacefully at the two venues with the presence of 248 delegates from the 10 wards in Lokoja Local Government

The Congress held at St Luke Primary School was supervised by INEC officials while policemen were on ground to provide security.
