Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps have arrested a 49-year-old man, Samson Ecater Igbinedion, over the discovery of a dismembered woman’s body in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, who resides in Ewalo Quarters, was arrested following surveillance operations launched after reports of missing women and suspicions of criminal activities in the community.
The Deputy Commander of Operations of the corps, Richard Balogun, disclosed that the operation followed intelligence reports about a suspected ritualist allegedly operating in the area.
Balogun said the corps had intensified surveillance after the discovery of the dismembered body, with operatives subsequently spotting a man allegedly dumping a corpse before driving away.
“Our surveillance team spotted someone in a Toyota vehicle dumping a corpse in the area before driving away.
When the operatives visited the scene, they discovered the dismembered body of a woman,” he said.
He explained that the operatives tracked down and arrested the suspect, recovered the vehicle allegedly used in the incident and handed him over to the police for further investigation.
The security corps also disclosed that it was investigating the disappearance of another woman, identified as Patience, in Ewowo community.
According to Balogun, Patience returned from Lagos to Benin City on October 1, 2026, but was later declared missing after her relatives and community members reportedly failed to establish her whereabouts.
The circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain unclear, while the corps said efforts were ongoing to address security concerns in the area.
Balogun urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist investigations and help prevent further criminal activities.
