            FIFA U-20 Women's Cup

By Harry Awurumibe                  Sierra Leone Women’s U-20 team has progressed to the last eight (quarterfinals) of the FIFA U-20 women’s world cup, France 2018 qualifiers after Tunisia withdrew from the competition due to unknown reasons.

The Sierra Leone team was scheduled to play the first leg in Tunis on 15th September 2017 with the return leg in Freetown due two weeks later.

According to a letter from the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) dated August 23 and signed by the competition Director, Shereen Arafa, the fixtures of both legs between Sierra Leone and Tunisia have been cancelled.

”We regret to inform you that the team of Tunisia withdrew from the Africa preliminaries FIFA U-20 women’ world cup, France 2018 qualifiers. The above matches are cancelled and Sierra Leone team is qualified for the next round,” the letter stated.

Mohamed Kanu said Sierra Leone will now play the winner between Guinea and Cameroon in the second round of the qualifiers with the first leg set for 3rd November and the return leg two weeks later.

Coach Victoria Conteh said she is happy as this will give her more chance to train more, and that is why the team will engage in international friendly matches in Morocco, which will serve as a serious test match for the team.
