Former Aide-De-Camp to Ambassador Fidelis Tagun, retired ASP Anthony Kwame, on Monday morning lost his life in a mysterious fire disaster that engulfed his residence in Jenta Adamu community of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The Eagle Online reports that the fire, which was said to have started at about 1.30am, The Eagle Online was told, also burnt three of his children to ashes.

Kwame’s wife and two other children survived the incident and are receiving medical attention.

The Eagle Online gathered that the former ADC to Tapgun, the Second Republic civilian Governor of Plateau State, was burnt to ashes with his three children inside their rooms.

Eyewitnesses said the fire outbreak started at about 1:30am immediately after the Nigeria versus Sweden match ended.

It burnt Kwame and the children – Theresa Anthony Thomas, Emmanuel Anthony and Kerry Anthony.

The compound of five apartments was razed down completely by wild fire suspected to be from power upsurge, which also affected properties worth millions of naira.

Speaking with The Eagle Online at the scene, the village head of Jenta Adamu, Kabala Bako, who shares the same fence with the deceased and his family, said at about 1:30am after watching the men’s Olympic football game, he was about going to sleep when they hard the voices of children crying for help.

The youths rushed to their rescue, struggling to prevent the fire from spreading to other surrounding buildings, but did not succeed until the whole building was burnt down.

According to Bako, “We kept pouring water before the firefighters came to the scene and quickly put off the fire.

“But they went into the rooms and discovered ASP Anthony Kwame and his three children were burnt to ashes.

“Only their skeletons were picked to hospital.”

Bako told The Eagle Online the youth did all they could to see that the family were rescued, adding: “It is sad this the ugly incidence has caused our community this monumental loss.”

It will be recalled that Kwame, who had seven children initially, lost first wife and remarried another.

The second wife gave birth to three children for him.

Kwame retired from active service and rented an apartment close to ECWA Bishara 4, near Twins Bread.

One of the survivors, Manya Mathew, said she was sleeping inside her room with the children when she heard her neighbours’ children shouting for help and when she looked up, the fire had almost razed the wall.

Mathew said her properties were affected as no single item could be rescued.
