The Peoples Democratic Party’s national convention held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Saturday has raised a Management Committee to run the affairs of the party in the interim.
A former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi had earlier been appointed acting Chairman of the troubled opposition party.
According to a statement issued, the PDP also announced Senator Ben Obi as Secretary of the management committee.
“The leadership of our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party came to the rescue at the 2016 National Convention in Port Harcourt after the cancellation of the Convention by the former Chairman, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff due to court orders.
“The leadership of the Party swiftly constituted a Committee to manage the affairs of the PDP and conduct another Convention after all the pending cases in courts are resolved.
“To that regard, the 2016 National Convention approved the nomination of Senator Ahmed Makarfi as Chairman and Sen. Ben Obi as Secretary of the Committee Respectfully. Other members of the Committee shall be announced later.
“The two officers have been sworn in immediately,” the statement reads.
