Hollywood filmmaker and actor Tyler Perry has ruled out marriage, saying the financial and legal consequences associated with divorce have influenced his decision to remain single.
The 57-year-old filmmaker, who has never been married, made the revelation during a recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show.
Perry, who has an 11-year-old son, Aman, with Gelila Bekele, stressed that his decision was not because he does not believe in love. Instead, he said he wants to protect the wealth and achievements he has built over the years.
According to the actor, witnessing people close to him lose their fortunes after divorcing has made him wary of marriage.
“I’m never marrying. And it’s actually the divorce pandemic that is happening. Everybody that I know that is doing well went broke because of divorce,” he said.
Prompt News reports Perry also explained that growing older has caused him to reassess his priorities. Rather than focusing on marriage, he said he now wants to slow down, spend more time with his son and enjoy the life he has built.
“It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in.”
The filmmaker has previously spoken publicly about navigating life as a single man.

In 2020, Perry described himself as being in the middle of a midlife crisis, revealing that he was 51, single and uncertain about what the next phase of his life would bring.
“This is what a midlife crisis looks like. I’m 51, single, and wondering what the next chapter in my life will look like. Whatever it looks like I’m going to walk with God, be the best father and man I can be,” he wrote at the time.
