Nigeria’s Super Eagles have retained 26th position in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings released on Monday, Prompt News Online reports.
Despite maintaining their place in the global standings, Eric Chelle’s side dropped to fourth in Africa after Egypt climbed above them following an impressive campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Super Eagles were last in action in June, suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat to Portugal in an international friendly.
Egypt’s rise was fuelled by an impressive World Cup showing, with the Pharaohs reaching the Round of 16 before bowing out after a thrilling 3-2 defeat to eventual runners-up Argentina.
Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked team after reaching the quarter-finals of the World Cup. The Atlas Lions also moved up one place in the global rankings, climbing from seventh to sixth.
Senegal continue to occupy second spot in Africa despite slipping three places in the world rankings, while Egypt are now the continent’s third-ranked nation. Algeria complete Africa’s top five after dropping one place globally.
On the world stage, newly crowned champions Spain have reclaimed the No. 1 ranking following their World Cup triumph, with Argentina dropping to second. France, England and Brazil round off the top five.
The next edition of the FIFA Men’s World Rankings is scheduled to be released on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
