A retired Nigerian Army officer has been killed while attempting to rescue a woman abducted by suspected gunmen during an attack on a residential community along the Nasarawa State border with the Federal Capital Territory.
The incident reportedly occurred around 12:45 a.m. on Friday at Plot 038, PGC Community, situated near Jikwoyi on the Nasarawa-FCT boundary.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed that the attackers stormed the residence of Silas Orite, 46, and abducted his wife, Bukola Oluwatoyin Silas, 40, before fleeing with her to an unknown destination.
According to the report, the Community Chief Security Officer, Master Warrant Officer Reuben Yelwa (retd.), responded after receiving information about the attack in a bid to rescue the victim.
However, the 61-year-old retired soldier was reportedly shot dead by the armed assailants during the intervention.
Police operatives were said to have visited the scene shortly after the attack, documented evidence and launched an investigation into the incident.
The report added that security agencies had intensified efforts to rescue the abducted woman safely while tracking down the gunmen responsible for the attack.

It further stated that security presence in the area had been strengthened through enhanced patrols and area domination operations to forestall further criminal activities.
