Nigerian social media critic VeryDarkMan has ignited controversy after proposing that Lagos State should be made an independent country, claiming the state is hindering national progress.
In a video shared on Instagram on Wednesday, VeryDarkMan questioned why all imports are routed through Lagos, despite the availability of alternative seaports.
“Lagos is the state slowing the whole Nigeria down and at this point after thinking through all of this I think Lagos should be made a country of its own, here’s why, why must everything come through Lagos,” he said.
He further argued that Lagos’ dominance in trade and logistics negatively impacts other parts of the country.
“Like anyone that imports anything, the container must land through Lagos and they have other options to create other seaports. Why must everything land and come through Lagos? Lagos is actually slowing Nigeria down,” he added.
VeryDarkMan’s remarks have sparked heated discussions online, with many weighing in on the economic and political implications of such a proposal.
