Eleven almajiri who died in a tragic sand heap collapse at a brick-moulding site in Yardoka village, Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
The incident occurred on June 2, 2025, and also left eight other children injured.
The victims, aged between 10 and 15, were identified as Muntari Abdulkadir, Aliyu Abba, Ali Umar, Mubarak Haruna, Usain Isa, Yusuf Shafiu, Mujitafa Jibril, Yusha’u Saidu, Aliyu Abdu, Hamisu Mohammed, and Ali Abdulmomini.
They were from Yardoka and nearby villages in the Damau District.
Seven others—Umar Dini, Jibir Surajo, Usman Abdulmomini, Sagir Hussaini, Naziru Abdullahi, Aminu Alkasim, and Kabiru Lawal—sustained varying degrees of injuries.
They are currently receiving treatment at the Primary Healthcare Centre in Yardoka.
The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) responded swiftly to the scene following a directive from Governor Uba Sani.
According to the agency’s spokesperson, Phillips Dominic, emergency teams were immediately deployed to assist with rescue and recovery efforts.
KADSEMA’s Executive Secretary, Dr Usman Hayatu Mazadu, led a delegation to the community to console the grieving families and distribute relief materials.
He also visited the injured children in hospital.
“Governor Uba Sani has pledged to cover all medical expenses for the victims,” Dominic said. “We provided relief items to help ease the burden on affected families.”
Dr Mazadu emphasized the importance of safety during the rainy season, noting that any loss of life—whether from natural or human-induced causes—is deeply felt by the state.
“We extend the heartfelt condolences of His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, to the people of Yardoka and the entire Kaduna community. Our prayers remain with the families of those lost,” he stated.

He added that KADSEMA is compiling a comprehensive report on the incident to inform further government support.
During the visit, the village head expressed gratitude for the state’s swift response and solidarity.
“We are thankful for the government’s support during this difficult time,” he said. “We remain committed to working together to safeguard our people.”
