Police operatives in Anambra State have rescued a kidnap victim in Umuege Village, Amawbia, located in the Awka South Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the rescue took place on Wednesday following a swift response from officers of the Central Police Station, Awka.

The team acted after receiving a distress alert around 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

Ikenga said the police chased the suspects, who were using an unmarked Sienna vehicle, forcing them to abandon the victim along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway in Umunya before fleeing.

The victim has since been debriefed, and the Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.

Updates will be provided as the case develops.
