The Kwara State government has advised residents of Oke-Ero Local Government Area to stay alert and promptly report anyone showing symptoms of tuberculosis (TB) to the nearest public health facility.
Speaking at the investiture of Oke-Ero Local Government Tuberculosis Ambassadors in Ilofa on Monday, the Commissioner for Health, Amina El-Imam, stressed the importance of early diagnosis in controlling the spread of the disease.
She urged residents to take advantage of government healthcare programs, including immunization drives and medical outreaches, to protect themselves and their communities from TB and other infectious diseases.
“To prevent the spread of tuberculosis, residents should raise awareness and encourage individuals experiencing symptoms such as a persistent cough, weight loss, night sweats, or fever to seek medical care at designated health centers,” she stated.
El-Imam reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accessible healthcare under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration.
She also acknowledged the contributions of traditional rulers in promoting public health and encouraged them to continue supporting efforts to combat TB.
Director of Public Health, Oluwatosin Fakayode, called on residents to utilize the state’s free TB screening and treatment services, emphasizing that early intervention is key to eliminating the disease.
In his remarks, Oke-Ero Local Government Chairman, Abiodun Fadipe, commended the government’s initiatives in tackling tuberculosis at the grassroots level and pledged continued support for public health programs.
The event was attended by key figures, including Oke-Ero’s representative in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Joseph Bamgboye, along with Ekiti Local Government Chairman, Gabriel Awelewa, and traditional rulers led by the Alofa of Ilofa, Oba Samuel Dada.
