No fewer than 10 travelers have been kidnapped by armed gunmen along the Owo-Ipele-Benin Highway in Ondo State, according to reports.
Funmi Odunlami, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, confirmed the incident, clarifying that seven individuals were taken by the attackers.
Sources from Akure, the capital of Ondo State, revealed that the victims were returning from a South-South state and on their way to Akure when the gunmen struck.
The attackers abandoned their commercial vehicle by the roadside, which was later discovered by passing drivers, who raised the alarm.
Prompt News reports that Odunlami assured the public that more information will be provided as investigations progress.
It has also been reported that the kidnappers have made contact with the families of the victims, demanding a ransom for their safe release.
