The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commended Pomegranate Nigeria Limited, a leading logistics company, for its commitment to road safety in Nigeria.
The Ogun State’s Sector Commander of the FRSC, Akinwunmi Fasakin, gave the commendation during the presentation of 30 pieces of breathalyzer to the command by the Chief Executive Officer of Pomegranate Nigeria Limited, Wole Elusakin on Tuesday in Abeokuta.
According to Fasakin, the gesture will go a long way in reducing accidents on Nigerian roads, pointing out that the time has come for stakeholders to join hands to intensify advocacy on road safety measures.
In his remark, Elusakin informed that the presentation of breathalyzers to the Ogun State Command will help detect and prevent drunk driving. Emphasizing the importance of promoting safe driving practices in Nigeria, he stated that “the life of a driver is precious, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure safety on the road.”
He also stated that safety was a collective responsibility that requires collaboration from all stakeholders, adding the company’s initiative is clarion call on all stakeholders to prioritize road safety in order to reduce road accidents and make Nigerian roads safer for everyone.
Noting that Pomegranate Nigeria Limited’s future plans include expanding its operations to several African and Middle Eastern nations, Elusakin said his company and its partners will continue to partner with the FRSC on road enlightenment activities with truck drivers.
Reiterating that drunk driving is a major contributor to road accidents in Nigeria, resulting in the loss of lives and property, Elusakin further informed that the use of breathalyzers is a crucial tool in detecting and preventing drunk driving since breathalyzers provide an accurate measurement of a driver’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC).
With these devices, he posited that the FRSC can effectively enforce traffic laws and ensure that drivers are fit to be on the road, pointing out that the initiative will ultimately contribute to safer roads and a reduction in road accidents in Nigeria.
