A 35-year-old man, identified as Ismaila, narrowly escaped being lynched by an angry mob in the Okumagba area of Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State, after he was accused of stealing a church keyboard.
The mob reportedly apprehended Ismaila and subjected him to a brutal beating. They placed a motor tyre around his neck and paraded him through Willie Street to Okumagba Avenue.
The suspect sustained severe injuries, including bruises on his head, as the mob prepared to set him ablaze.
However, mobile policemen arrived at the scene in time to rescue him.
The officers took him to the “B” Division Police Station, assuring the crowd that he would provide information about his alleged accomplices.
Some members of the mob expressed frustration at the police intervention, blaming the delay for preventing them from taking drastic action to serve as a warning to others.
As of the time of this report, Ismaila had been taken into police custody for further investigation.
