The Kwara House of Assembly has called for the establishment of a fire service station at Jebba, Moro Local Government Area of the state, for quick response to fire outbreaks and other emergencies.

The House considered this following a Matter of Urgent Public Importance raised by Mrs Madinah Abdulrahman (APC/Lanwa-Ejidongari) during plenary on Wednesday in Ilorin.

Abdulrahman intimated her on the serial inferno in Jebba, saying that the last fire incident burnt five persons to death while scores were injured.

She lamented the socio-economic effect of the incident as affected business owners are still counting their losses.

Some lawmakers in their contributions sympathised with the victims over the unfortunate incident.

They supported the need to strategically set up a functional fire service station to respond to emergencies when the need arises.

Reading the resolutions of the House, Speaker Yakubu Salihu (APC/Gwanara) urged Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to direct the Ministry of Communication to intensify campaign against construction of buildings under high tension to halt fire disasters.

Meanwhile, the Kwara Broadcasting Corporation, Radio Kwara Amendment Bill 2023, scaled through first reading on the floor of the House on Wednesday.

The Motion for the Bill to be read first time was moved by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Youths, Sports and Culture, Mrs Rukayat Shittu (APC/Owode-Onire).

Other bills read for the first time during sitting were the Kwara Council for Arts and Culture Amendment Bill 2023, the Kwara Printing and Publishing Corporation Bill, and the Herald Amendment Bill, 2023.

The Clerk of the House, Alhaji Ahmed Abdulkareem, read the three Amendment Bills first time on the floor of the House.

The speaker, therefore, referred the three Amendment Bills to Rules and Business Committee to slate them for second reading.

He also directed the clerk to circulate copies of the bills to lawmakers ahead of the second reading. (NAN). READ ALSO:
