The crisis rocking the Nigeria Football Federation reared its ugly head again on Thursday, when the chairman of the Elections Appeals Committee, Okey Ajunwa announced the nullification of the election of NFF President Amaju Pinnick.
Mr. Pinnick was elected president of NFF on September 30 in Warri, Delta State.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja, the Appeals Committee chairman, Okey Ajunwa said the election of Mr. Pinnick was faulty and therefore nullified.
Also, three other executive committee members have their elections nullified.
They are Vice President Seyi Akinwumi, Felix Anyansi representing South East and Rabiu Inuwa representing North West.
The Committee has consequently ordered that fresh elections be conducted within seven days to replace those whose elections have been nullified.
Mr. Amaju Pinnick and Seyi Akinwumi have also been directed to stop parading themselves as NFF president and vice president respectively.
In the bye-election, the Appeals Committee said all the candidates cleared for the August 26 election in Abuja and September 30 election in Warri, that are from the affected zones and offices are eligible to contest.
Prompt News recalls that four contestants – Muazu Suleyman, Sani Fema, Shehu Dikko and Leonard Igbokwe, had filed appeal to challenge the outcome of the September 30 election in Warri, Delta State.
But, rather than allowing the committee to publicly release its findings, NFF through its spokesperson, Ademola Olajire, rushed to issue a statement on Wednesday suggesting that the committee has validated Mr Pinnick’s election.
According to Olajire, ““All the members, except the chairman upheld the elections of Anyansi-Agwu and Sharif Rabiu Inuwa, and also maintained that the Appellant had no locu standi to, challenge the entire election.
“In conclusion however the NFF 2014 Elective Congress held in Warri on Tuesday 30th 2014 is hereby upheld in its entirety.”
Apart from Ajunwa, other members of the Appeals Committee signed the resolution of the committee released by the NFF on Wednesday.
Prompt News recalls that there have been allegations of bribery and intimidation aimed at watering down the report of the committee.
