The Federal Executive Council has approved contracts for road and water projects in the Federal Capital Territory, Niger Delta region and Kwara State.
According to the Supervising Minister of Information, Nurudeen Mohammed, who briefed State House correspondents after the weekly Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, all the contracts awarded worth N100.2 billion.
Explaining the road project in the Abuja, FCT Minister Bala Mohammed, explained that an upward review of contract for provision of engineering infrastructure at Wuye District to the tune of N3.4 billion was approved by the cabinet.
The total contract sum has now increased from N39.6 billion to N43.12 billion, but will now include additional arterial ring roads and flyover bridge.
Bala said another contract of N7.17 billion was approved for the FCT Administration to construct additional roads along the Inner Northern Expressway (INEX) that serves the Abuja Industrial Park in Karmo District.
The Council approved a contract of N43.45b for the completion of the Inner Southern Expressway (ISEX).
According to him, this will help decongest vehicular traffic within the city centre and provide an alternative route to the Abuja airport.
The Council also approved the award of contract for consultancy services for the construction of Nigeria’s Cultural Centre and Millennium tower project in Abuja in favour of Messrs Sal Consults in the sum of N383.14 million.
The consultants are to review the designs, monitor the project and offer full quantity surveying.
Another contract was awarded for the provision of access road and engineering infrastructure to Plot 1458 and adjoining plots around Hot FM in Gudu District at a cost of N1.79 billion.
Council also approved upward review of contract in line with the approval sought by the Minister of Water Resources, Mrs Sarah Ochekpe.
The contract for provision of potable water supply in some parts of Kwara state has now been increased from N903.6 million to N1.02 billion.
In the Niger Delta, N43.86 billion was approved for upgrading the construction of a 15km Section III: Port Harcourt (Eleme Junction) to Onne Port Junction Road in Rivers State, of the East-West Road traversing the Niger Delta region.
The minister justified the high cost of the contract, saying that particular section of the road will be strengthened and reinforced with tar and concrete taking into consideration the peculiar terrain of the region.
