The new N100 note commemorating Nigeria’s centenary was on Wednesday unveiled by President Goodluck Jonathan at the State House, Abuja.
In his brief remarks at the event held shortly before the commencement of the weekly Cabinet meeting, President Jonathan lauded the Central Bank of Nigeria for coming up with the commemorative N100 note.
He recalled that the N50 notes were introduced to mark the nation’s 50th independence anniversary.
Also speaking, the Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was more concerned with the cost implication and whether the notes will be printed locally or outside the country.
The President however said the cost and others things involved would be made known when the memo for the contract gets to the Council.
Presenting the new N100 note, the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele said it was issued to commemorate the 100 years of the nation’s amalgamation.
According to him, countries like Morocco, Russia and Costa Rica had issued new currencies to mark epochal events.
The CBN governor assured that the new note was produced with the most advanced security features in the world.
Emefiele said the note could boast of features such as security, durability, attractiveness, cultural heritage and transformation.
