The Dele Arigbabu Neurosurgical Foundation (DANF) has restated commitment to improving access to neurosurgical care for the less privileged.

Dr. Femi Bankole, Chief of Neurosurgery and Consultant Neurosurgeon, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), gave the assurance in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.

Bankole said that DANF would do more to provide financial support, subsidise services and improve  awareness of neurosurgery care and outcomes among Nigerians.

He said that DANF was committed to acquiring modern equipment for the LUTH Neurosurgical Department to assist in providing worldclass care for patients.

Bankole added that the foundation was committed to training healthcare professionals in neurosurgical care.

“Worldwide, neurosurgery is not only demanding of the time and passion of neurosurgeons, but a capital-intensive and equipment-driven sub-specialty of medicine.

“This is necessary to provide the minimum amount of damage for the maximum benefit of patients,” he said.

According to him, since the launch of DANF in 2015, it has been able to assist 20 patients with neurological conditions with financial support.

“DANF has received assistance from well-meaning individuals and organisations in achieving its goals,” he said.

Bankole said that the DANF Brain Tumor Survivor Support Group Programme would be launched on Dec. 12.

“The DANF Brain Tumor Survivor Support Group Programme was birthed to provide a support system that would make it easier for patients with brain tumours to go through the process of accepting the diagnosis and the many roads to healing,” he said.

He expressed optimism that the programme would result in better relationships, healthy psychological state and better quality of life for brain tumour patients and survivors. (NAN)
