Why My Boss Is Now Unpopular- Maku

Despite genuine reforms being carried out in key sectors by the present administration, President Goodluck Jonathan is still very unpopular among Nigerians.

The President enjoyed tremendous goodwill among the people prior to the 2011 elections. However, his popularity has declined significantly in recent time.

But the government spokesman, Labaran Maku at the Ministerial platform in Abuja offered explanations on why his boss is still not popular, saying it is because of deep reforms being carried out.

“This President is not popular because he is embarking on some secret and deep reforms and for him to be a reformer, he must carry out some deep reforms that could transform the country. In doing this, he has to carry the people together which are what we are doing, Maku stated.

A visibly displeased Minister of Information frowned at frequent criticisms of the President who he argued is pushing ahead with reforms in key sectors in line with the transformation agenda.

Maku also reminded Nigerians who are unhappy with the administration that President Jonathan inherited several challenges coupled with the insurgency, but hastened to add “as it is poised to tackle the myriads of developmental problems confronting the country”.
