The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday advised passengers to allow drivers to concentrate when driving especially during the ’ember’ months to avert accidents on the roads.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Abia, Meshach Jatau, gave the advice in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia.
The sector commander said that there were no blood-sucking demons on the expressways, especially in ’ember’ months, but that accidents were caused mostly by human errors.
He said that most passengers were usually so anxious to meet their expectations during the period that they put pressure on drivers to drive beyond the limits.
He said: “some of these passengers distract the drivers by telling them to go too fast because they believe they are not fast enough.”
“They also distract drivers with stories when they are supposed to observe and caution them against any reckless driving or speeding.’’
Jatau also advised motorists to be patient and apply the road safety rules during the period in order to avert imminent accidents.
He said the FRSC had mapped out activities in the state from June to check excesses of drivers.
According to him, some of the activities include drawing of government’s attention to the black spots on the roads, public enlightenment and deployment of personnel to the expressways.
