The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the arrest of 53 suspects in connection with recent deadly attacks in Benue and Plateau states that have left dozens dead and many others injured or displaced.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, Egbetokun described the June 13 attack on Yelewata community in Benue State as a “coordinated act of terror.”
According to him, 26 suspects were apprehended in relation to the Yelewata massacre, 22 others were arrested over the violence in Plateau State, while an additional five were taken into custody for a separate recent attack in Benue.
The IGP confirmed that 47 people were killed and 27 injured in the Yelewata incident.

He added that police recovered two general-purpose machine guns and eight AK-47 rifles used during the assault.
