Veteran Nigerian music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has revealed that his timeless classic African Queen was both a blessing and a burden in his musical journey.
The award-winning singer made this known during a recent appearance on the Entertainment & Lifestyle show, where he reflected on how the 2004 hit song changed his life and career.
According to him, African Queen gave him international recognition but also came with challenges that tested his patience and strength over the years.
He said, “African Queen has been a very huge blessing, and e come turn to problem join for me. But I am grateful for everything.”
The song, released in 2004, became a continental anthem that propelled 2Baba to global fame and earned him prestigious accolades, including BET, MTV Europe, and MOBO Awards — making him the first African to win all three.
However, the song’s success has been clouded by lingering disputes over ownership. His former Plantashun Boiz bandmate, Blackface, has repeatedly accused him of stealing the track.
