At last, England has made it to the final of the FIFA FIFA Women’s World Cup after the Three Lionesses thrashed Australia’s Matildas 3-1 in the second semi-final match of the ongoing competition to set up an All-time final against Spain on Sunday at Stadium Australia in Sydney.
Goals by Ella Toone (36 mins), Lauren Hemp (72 mins) and Alessia Russo (82 mins) ensured that England won the match and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup final for the first-time ever.
A superb strike by Toone put England in the driver’s seat in the 36 minute of the epic clash as every efforts made by the co-hosts Australia to equalise before the half time failed to yield good result.
On resumption, Australia pushed forward and the Matildas pressure on England paid off in the 63 mins after Sam Kerr, playing from start to finish in this Women’s World Cup received a through pass from the half way line and raced all the way to England’s end before releasing a thunderbolt of a shot from range to beat Mary Earps to equalise the match for Australia.
But England kept working hard and retook the lead through Hemp in the 72 mins while any hope of late revival by Australia was dashed late on when Russo’s 82 mins ensured that England defeated their opponents 3-1 on the day. READ ALSO:
