The family of 16-year-old Akinbolaji Timileyin has appealed for financial assistance to enable him to undergo surgery for a right inguinal hernia.
Timileyin was reportedly taken to the Oromidayo Medicare Centre after developing severe abdominal and scrotal pain, with medical examinations subsequently confirming the condition.
A medical report from the facility stated that the teenager was rushed to the clinic following complaints of severe abdominal and scrotal aches.
A scan conducted at Joy Medical Diagnostic Centre, Ijoko, Ogun State, also revealed a compressible mass measuring about 98mm by 76mm in the right upper quadrant of the pelvic canal.
The report noted that the mass was associated with probe tenderness, with the findings considered suggestive of a right inguinal hernia.
It further stated that both testes had smooth outlines, homogeneous echo patterns and normal sizes, with no mass or cyst detected in the right scrotum. The impression was right inguinal hernia, with medical attention advised.
Speaking on Monday, Timileyin’s mother, Akinbolaji Nofisat, said the condition became noticeable after her son dev eloped swelling around his private part and stomach.
She said the family was informed that he would require surgery estimated to cost N400,000, adding that the doctors had commenced measures to stabilise him while the family sourced funds for the operation.
According to Nofisat, the problem initially started with stomach pain, prompting the family to try different herbal concoctions before seeking medical treatment when his condition failed to improve.
She said the family had so far raised N100,000 but still needed N300,000 to pay for the surgery.
