Alhaji Lawal Liman, Commissioner for Health in Zamfara, says the state government is set to upgrade 17 orphanages and less-privileged hospitals across the state.

He announced this on Saturday when he led the officials of the Ministry of Health Anguwar Yarima orphanage and less-privileged hospital, Gusau, noting that Zakkat and Endowment Board built the orphanages and less-privileged hospitals.

`It is part of our responsibilities to ensure good health care system in the state; even though these hospitals were build by the state Zakkat and Endowment Board.

“We have 17 of these hospitals across the 14 local government areas of the state, we noticed that majority of them not working effectively, we are going to ensure that effective health services is rendered in these hospitals.

“We are going to ensure provision of adequate personnel, that drug and other equipment are provided to the facilities in order to upgrade their standards.

“We are going to establish anti-natal care unit in some of these hospitals in order to reduce problems of maternal health cases among our women.

“You know, health care delivery requires collaborative efforts, therefore we are ready to partner with the government, private organisations and individuals in order to improve health sector of the state,’’ he said.

The hospital’s secretary, Malam Jamilu Yakubu, who responded on behalf of the management and staff of the hospital, commended the ministry for the visit.
