The Zamfara Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development says it has distributed relief materials and medicaments to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable groups in the state.
This is contained in a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Gusau by the Director Information of the Ministry, Bashir Kabir-Ahmad, on Friday .
According to the statement, the Commissioner of the ministry, Hajiya Fa’ika Ahmad, disclosed this during a send off party organised in her honour by members of staff of the ministry.
“This is part of the achievements recorded by the ministry from 2019 to date,” she was quoted to have said.
During the ceremony, the ministry unveiled a five-year strategic plan, banditry displacement dashboard at a glance for the smooth operation of humanitarian activities in the state.
The statement explained that the beneficieries included 200 heads of households.
“A total of 27 trucks of medicaments were distributed to various healthcare centres across the 14 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
“Also, 172 trucks of COVID-19 palliatives were successfully distributed to vulnerable population in the state.
“Also, 425 IDPs and youths benefited from livelihood items, such as 200 industrial sewing machines, 50 tricycle Cargo Keke-NAPEP and 175 3.3KVA generators as empowerment support.
“We were able to provide boreholes and the installation of solar street lights to three IDPs locations in three LGAs, among others,” the statement added.
The commissioner also reportedly lauded Gov. Bello Matawalle for supporting the ministry.
She also thanked their partners for their unwavering commitments and confidence in the ministry’s activities.
“I am delighted today to express my appreciation to the entire staff of this ministry for your support and cooperation.
“I am appealing to the incoming administration to ensure effective implemention of the five-year strategic roadmap for the wellbeing of vulnerable persons,” she added.
The statement further quoted the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Sani Nasarawa, to have also commended the commissioner for her honesty, prudence and due process.
“On behalf of the staff of the ministry, I am happy to present the Award Of Excellence to you in recognition of your excellent performance,” Nasarawa reportedly said. (NAN)
