By Gloria Emmanuel          A group in the southwest, Oduduwa United Frontiers (OUF) has condemned recent attack on key political office holders in the present administration, noting that it is targeted at President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group particular frowned at the involvement of some All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders from the Yoruba race in the coordinated attacks, saying it does not represent the position of the entire southwest.

Addressing a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday, president of the group, Mr. Kolawole Abe, stressed the need to support the Buhari administration by all irrespective of tribe.

He wondered why two key office holders in the Buhari administration- Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazzau and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, both northerners are being singled out for sustained attacks.

Abe noted that the accusations against “these otherwise excellent Nigerians” have made them to look like they are evil men even when they are putting in their best to move the country forward in line with the change agenda.

The president of Oduduwa United Frontiers said they have been watching how the southwest leaders have been running down some key figures in this administration, adding that “the latest on the chopping block is the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazzau who they are desperately attempting to tarnish with the now worn out allegation of corruption.”

The text of the press briefing read by Abe states further, “Before then, it was the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai and other northerners, which many are already aware are targeted at the Buhari’s presidency.”

Abe however posited that “This (attack) is clearly against the generally held position by the Yoruba race as the larger part of their leaders are genuinely committed to President Buhari’s administration.

“The few that are desperate for appointments for either themselves or for their allies are now portraying the region as one that is out for only political appointments.

“Hence, the recent campaign of calumny against aides of the President that have been proven to be emanating from the south west allied coalition of civil society groups and other eminent Nigerians is totally unacceptable.

“If we allow this to continue, no region in the country will again trust the Yoruba enough to want to enter into any political arrangement with the Southwest in the foreseeable future.

“While the men doing this damage would have been long gone it is our generation and our children that would be treated as political pariah.

“Much as we want to reap the benefit of our political efforts and hard work we do not want to be beneficiary of ‘haram’ because that is what the spoil of this war of attrition would be to anyone accepting appointments resulting from criminally chasing another person out of office with lies.

“We therefore demand that these selfish leaders desist from this their evil trade. Where they wish to continue attacking or demonizing the north they must be bold enough to openly place disclaimers that they commit their evil without the endorsement of the Yoruba race and the consequent benefits if for their own selfish gain and not for the South West.

“We further emphasize that the region appreciates Mr. President and the youths who voted him in 2015 are ready to support his policies and therefore should consider the vituperation of certain few minority as sponsored goons who are out to justify their payments.”
