Yaya Toure of Cote D’ Ivore was Thursday night crowned the Glo-CAF African Player of the Year 2013 at a very colourful award ceremony held in Lagos.
He beat Nigeria and Chelsea’s striker, Mikel Obi to the second position while Cote D’ Ivore’s Didier Drogba came last.
Another big award missed by Nigeria is the African Player of the Year (based in Africa). Egypt’s Mohammed Aboutreika beat Nigeria’s Sunday Mba to emerge winner.
However, it was Nigeria’s night, winning five awards but lost the ‘mother of all’ – African Player of the Year that most Nigerians craved for.
Nigeria won the Team of the Year, Nigeria’s Supporters Club won Fair Play Award, Kelechi Iheanacho won Most Promising Talent, U-17 won National Youth Team of the Year and Super Eagles head coach, Stephen Keshi emerged the Coach of the Year.
Also, three Nigerian players made the African 11- Mikel Obi, Emmanuel Emenike and Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama with Keshi as the coach.
